External Message – Think Before You Click Yes, I was able to bring up a second zLinux instance to recover from...after disabling al of the crontabs. Now I'm at the point of recovering the actual data. I'm trying to use rsync, but since this is going to the temporary zLinux to the production, I'm a bit concerned with the output. External Message – Think Before You Click It's been a while but as far as I remember in redhat (clefos should be similar), for single user mode (so no network) you can do a "#cp vi vmsg" combo. When the zipl screen shows up you have a few seconds to type in your choice with additional kernel parameters. So you can do for example #cp vi vmsg 0 1 (0 for first choice from the list and 1 for single user mode). If you feel that single user mode is not good for your task, then I am sure there are other options you could use via "vi vmsg" (BTW, the "vi" at this point has nothing to do with linux vi program. it stands for "virtual input" AFIK). But sounds like this should work just fine for you. After you get into the single user mode, sed is a good option to do what you want Changing IP address with sed in the ifcfg script is pretty easy. For example sed -i 's/10.15.15.7/10.25.25.8/' ./ifcfg-filename without "-i" it would just print what it would do without saving "s" is for "substitute" and then you have a string you want to change and your destination string Other thoughts Can you just link that minidisk to another running zlinux, bring it online, mount it and get whatever you want or even update that icfg script at that point? That's what I usually do. It might get slightly more difficult if you have the same root VG name everywhere but there are workarounds for tha too. Also, sometimes when I work with a clone and I want to change the IP address so it doesn't mess anything already live, I would boot it without a network interface being coupled to a virtual switch. Then I would update the network scripts (with sed since ssh of course would not be available). thanks Gregory On Thu, Jul 22, 2021 at 8:55 AM Frank M.
