Hi, Luke.
It's not so much that people aren't interested I think, but that there's a
bit of work yet to do on the kernel, etc, before consideration can be given
to tuning up other things. I've been pretty passive on this list due to
work pressures but still have an interest in contributing as/when the time
becomes available. I notice a bit of interest recently with specific
architectures like the HP200 and Psion. There was also talk of using ELKS
for embedded controllers so I surmise there's really quite a degree of
interest out there.
Perhaps one of the reasons for apparent low traffic density on this list is
that the server doesn't munge the headers to point to the list so replies
generally go direct to the authors (depending on which 'reply" option the
responent chooses of course.)
In a tertiary environment such as mine old computers never die, they're
just put in a cupboard somewhere! So I have the odd few genuine IBM '286
boxes around that I'd like to revitalise with ELKS when the time is right,
including networking :-) These have MCA so they might present unique
challenges. Perhaps that's another reason why things seem a bit slower
coming to completion -- the architectures in the early days weren't quite
as "standardised" as they are today? Just a thought.
Cheers,
Denis
P.S. Anyone on this list also from Australia? If so, would you be
interested in an early Australian-made laptop using a '186 chip, 8-line
40-character lcd and rom-based DOS, word processor and spreadsheet? Has
external battery charger - cum - dual 5.25" floppy disks. Was in working
order last time I looked about a year ago except the nicads were becoming
dead. Should be able to host ELKS if it was rom-able. Free to good home
if you pay the freight. It's heavy, so overseas freight would be a killer :-)
