The bit about monitoring temperature reminds me of something... when I
installed lm_sensors, my machine locked up within 24 hrs after having
run for two weeks.  After reboot, I didn't load the lm_sensors stuff
and have run for a week with no problems.

Mine is 466@507x2 with interactive use only (no seti et al) and no
special cooling other than stock cpu fans and case fan.
