I got a lockup when installing an rpm ( the newly built
procps-2.0.6-1SMP.i686.rpm ). I did a lot of rpm -ba when fiddling with
the spec file. Then, when I tried to install it I got a lockup.

The screen froze just about about the same time the install started, but
everything seemed to install. Rpm said that the package was installed and
a query showed all files. Unfortunately I never tried to run any prog to
see hiw well they installed.

Every lockups I have had since kernel 2.3.39 has been during disk
activity, such as during updatedb.

Sometimes, when ynpacking a kernel, a few random characters can be
missing. Unpacking it again from the same tar.gz, and everything is
correct. When I tried to unpack kernel 2.3.47 I got crc errors a couple of
times before it unpacked properly. Applying the 2.3.48 patch gave some
other error the first time. Why is that?
