I've gone through the painful process of installing GCC 2.7.2.3 from
tarball and compiled the latest kernel code (2.3.47-6), with no luck.
The error message pops up just after initializing the HPT66 and IDE-CD,
saying:
Unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference
<bunch of stuff that scrolls fast>
NMI Watchdog detected LOCKUP on CPU0
<more stuff>
