Well, I've narrowed things down to a potential problem with the ide driver
in 2.4.46/7. I'm using GCC 2.7.2.3 as my compiler now, though Mandrake 7
no longer uses pgcc. Booting a 4[6,7] kernel with ide support results in
a 'Unable to handle kernel NULL pointer deference'/'NMI Watchdog detected
LOCKUP CPU0' error.

Booting 46 with only SCSI support still had fatal errors, but those were
resolved in 47. However, 47 still has problems elsewhere, for ex. it
won't compile the tulip driver.

Can anyone else confirm this behavior?
