Do you use X 4.0.1-* with the nvidia supplied X-Server modules?
If so: they suck, that's the cause of your machine hanging...
I used these nvidia supplied X-Server modules, and every time I
exited a GL-application my system would lock up.
If you don't, it might be your powersupply... :]
