I have a disk that refuses to identify to the BIOS when it's "slave
without master". Worked like a charm though under Linux.

Untill it stopped working. From then on, I have had to move
it to master, and now it works both in the BIOS and in Linux.

Conclusion:

Some disks don't work as slave without a master.
