Also partially true. Visual C++ did not exist when Windows 3.1 was
released. It came a year later. You're right though, In looking through
the history it appears that CORBA version 1.1 (the first version for some
reason) was in late 1991, while Windows 3.1 did not come out until april
1992. COM was first developed in 1988 though, while the OMG wasn't even
founded until late 1989.

Early versions of what? COM for Unix? COM has nothing to do with widgets
or GUI's, though some kinds of COM protocols include references to them
(such as OLE).

SOM wasn't introduced until what, 1991? Later it became CORBA compliant,
but wasn't originally.
