Punish him for putting himself in such a situation, as a result
of his previous behavior....as I said....3x punishment for any
wrongdoing committed while under the influence.

Having a flashback is "under the influence"

I like the way that Netscape and, in fact, most other apps print. They
print PS and give you a text entry box to enter the print command in. By
default the printer command is "lp(r)" with no options which works perfectly
under most circumstances.

I don't like apps which second gess the user like GIMP seems to be doing.

Afghanistan really doesn't fit. Because the Soviets never really
had air superiority once we started sending Stinger missiles to
the Mujadeen.

I used to be in a stinger unit, and it is a VERY effective weapon.

I did some research to find out just how effective the Stinger was
in Afghanistan. I came across a book, and looked up any references
to the Stinger...here is one thing I found which is very telling:

The author has been travelling with a band of mujadeen for several
weeks. He asks their leader, "Why haven't the Russians attacked us
with aircraft?"
The mujadeen leader replies, "Stinger missiles"
"But...you don't have any Stinger missiles"
"You know that, and I know that...but every time we pass through
a village, I tell the people that we have some Stingers with us."

Conclusion: The mere RUMOR of Stinger Missiles kept all Soviet
attack craft (both fixed-wing and helicoptors) from flying
anywhere within range of this band of men.

Add to that the mountainous terrain, and you are only a small
step from the heavily-forested mountains which almost completely
negate the effectiveness of air superiority even without
effective defensive anti-aircraft systems.

Maskirovka is derived from the verb "maskirovat'", which comes

"maskirovat'":
1) to mask, conceal
2) to disguise
3) to camauflage

This does not imply that pipes require multitasking. It merely shows that
a pipe with multitasking has more functionality than a pipe without
multitasking. If you're using shell syntax and sending the input of
one job to the output of another as a definition, then even dos pipes
satisfy the definition.

Since you haven't bothered to quote a definition, one can only conclude
that you're making one up, and then using that to conclude that dos
does not "have real pipes". That's an entirely circular argument, because
you've chosen an arbitrary definition of a "pipe".

Shell piping syntax is an example of piping. It is not "the real thing",
it is only a small part of what pipes are. You can do a lot of things
with pipes, many of which have nothing to do with plugging one filter
into another.

Have you heard the parable of the elephant and the blind men ?
Well you're one of the blind men.

Come back and talk about pipes when you understand what they actually
are.

>I'm using piping syntax as define under DOS and (modern) UNIX shells. I
>know what it is. How would I know what | did if I didn't know what pipes
>did?

The blind man also knows what an elephant is -- it's "very much
like a snake"

Again -- piping syntax is NOT piping. It's a small subset
of the functionality offered by pipes.

But when circumstances change, they change globally. Why would
you want every individual to apply ACL's and have to update them
on every file when the circumstances change as opposed to letting
the system administrator take care of updating the groups as
the groups change?

Obviously, the figure would have to be viewed in context of other taxes.
I'd suggest a rate comparable to the top marginal rate (I believe the
existing inheritance rate is higher) and put the threshold fairly high
(as it already is).

Those poor fund babies -- how my heart bleeds for them.

I was referring to inheritance. I'd still work if my inheritance ws
taxed at 100%.

I don't advocate a 100% marginal rate for income taxes.

If you really think I'm advocating that, I can see why you are expressing
disagreement ...

Irrelevant diversion. Named pipes are pipes, because they are used for
interprocess communication. Dos pipes are not pipes because there is
no such thing as IPC without multitasking (at least it's not real IPC,
and hence they're not real pipes)

The definition says that pipes are an IPC mechanism. temp files are not.

There's a difference between communicating and doing an autopsy. DOS does
the latter.
