part of the new xawtv package has a program called fbtv (frame buffer TV).  
you can also use your winTV card on the console if you have frame buffer
support compiled in.

you may want to link /dev/video0 to /dev/video.  

and have you loaded your bttv module --- or compiled it in?  Mine works and is
a module.

yes my WinTV card works fine.
