New 21264 based systems

Does linux fully utilize the new 21264 SMP systems that seem to be coming
out? How much faster is it then the previous chip in terms of floating
point performance? There seems to be a giant leap in price, I am just
wondering if it is a worthwile investment for us. We do geological modeling 
and it can be a long process, I am looking at speeding it up...
