Hello Marc,  Nope the updates didn't change a darn thing I
        am still getting the 'unaligned trap' like below for both 
        traceroute & ping .

        Does this have something to do with the gcc version ?
        gcc-2.7.2.3 doesn't recognise the linux-alpha-unknown .
        I am trying to get egcs-2.95-19990616 compiled up, but
        none of the usual tools are there 'make bootstrap' is
        but not 'make compare' & 'make check' complains that it
        can not find 'runtest'(Which I have -never- seen compile
        correctly) .
