The netconfig utility of the slackware distribution
configures just one ethernet card, the utilities of
RedHat involve some other things like setting up
several ethernets, serial network adapters, name
resolution (/etc/hosts,/etc/resolv.conf,etc) (I'm
talking about netcfg, it comes on redhat 4.2 and 5.0)
I think this one is better if you want to control
those setups in the same interface, and there are
other distributions with easy network configuration
like SUSE or Turbo Linux, this last one includes a
graphical aplication for configuring a DNS server and
it comes with the netcfg utility of redhat.
I've seen in several lists people creating a kind of
distribution war, I think that linux is great cause I
can choose what I want in the way I want, I mean if I
want something simple I can choose a simple
distribution or if I want to know in deep how the OS
works I avoid the simplicity of using already created
scripts and develop my own script knowing and
controling everything I can.

If you just want to access the web/internet from the
linux box you just need the appropiate configuration
of TCP/IP on the linux machine (default gateway, IP
address, netmask, etc) but if you need it interacting
with the novell (IPX) network it will be better if
you read the ipx-howto.
