Connecting a laptop

This might be a little off of topic, but here it goes.

I have a laptop running win9x and I need to connect it to my Linux box (RH
5.1)

I have a serial cable connected to com1 on the laptop and com2 (ttyS1) on
the Linux box.
How can I set up the Linux box so that I can connect to it from the Laptop
and share files.
