Of course - no-one is arguing with any of that. I was mixing two entirely
separate points above
1) whether people prefer Debian or RedHat on their desktops
(x86/ARM/whatever),
2) Available 'distributions' for the RiscPC - the choice being 'Russell's FTP
stuff' - invariably referred to as 'RedHat', however innacurately, or Debian
(the standard Debian-ARM distro, or the tailored-for-the-RiscPC Aleph One
version)
All I said was that in both these cases I had never before met anyone who
wanted to go back the 'Redhat' after using 'Debian'. That is still true,
although I'm sure there _are_ people who tried Debian on their x86 box and
found they preferred RedHat, but I haven't met any and that's actually
hopelessly off-topic for this list.

Of course, and I think many of use are impressed at how far you got as
pretty-much a one-man band.

I hope you are not accusing me of spreading FUD? I do my very best to only
spread sweetness, light, and helpful information :-) As I said above, I stand
by what I said in my message - it was factual and to the point - it was not
intended to denigrate anything - simply record what I knew and thus try to
answer the question. I'm sorry if you've taken offense (again).

It does produce a working system, but as you say a very old and significantly
limited one. You are not suggesting that people should be recommending that
risc-pc users would be best-off using what is available there are you?
Of course someone is free to do an updated distro based on RedHat sources if
they want to (eg Stefan Hanske's stuff which is indeed still there), but
given the limited number of people interested in Risc-PC support then fixing
the bugs in the existing Debian stuff would be a much more productive use of
time, and beneficial to many more people IMHO.
