Oh, you mean *application* documentation. :) I should have been more clear - it's true that many of the free audio apps have rather dodgy documentation. (sfront and csound, OTOH, are quite well documented.) But the linux kernel, X, window managers etc. are IMHO better documented than Windows, Mac etc. - *all* information is available right down to the source - nothing is hidden by a vendor. *Finding* the right information is sometimes a tricky exercise. The quality of user communities is also important ... I've never had a question about linux or other free software that nobody could answer.
