The multitrack has its samples arranged to fixed positions. By pressing the play button, that one arrangement starts playing, and it won't stop when the play button is released or won't play infinitely in a loop when the button is hold down. The disk sampling synth can play multiple samples at arbitrary times, and loop them infinitely if necessary. There are no prearrangements. -*- In multitrack editor, we could allow key-bindings to individual arrangements (i.e., multiple edit works) or individual tracks so that they start playing when the keys are pressed, and stops when keys are released. This means we allow multiple distinct play heads in the multitrack "tape player". Loops can be handled too by allowing callbacks for presses and releases. So, multitrack editor could be turned to imitiate the disk sampling synth but it would then be the disk sampling synth -- if they patented the basic idea of sampling synth reading the samples from disk, then it doesn't matter how it is implemented, and we are not safe. In any case, I would add those key-bindings, callbacks, loops and multiple play heads to a multitrack editor because they would be useful even not used for a disk sampling synth.
