Nearly every stomp box "tube distortion" i've ever opened, or looked at a circuit for, uses diodes for clipping. Ibanez TubeScreamer Danelectro Daddy-O MXR Distortion+ Pro Co RAT Peavey Tube-Sound Distortion Some notable exceptions: Craig Anderton's Tube Sound Distortion, sounds pretty good: (uses two stages of a 4049 CMOS inverter for distortion!) EH Hot Tubes Distortion, haven't heard it: (similar, but uses 3 stages of the 4049) -- Paul Winkler http://www.slinkp.com "Welcome to Muppet Labs, where the future is made - today!"
