The only limitation of not using MLP would be that you can't have six
channels at 24/96.

Why not? Flac + open DVD-audio format for N channels.

Do you know any DVD-A player that has a FLAC decoder built in ?

Mabye KiSS will add it to their players.

The DVD-A spec does not allow anything but MLP, or no compression,
so no manufacturer will ever make such a thing.

Is there a way to play lossless multi-channel audio with DVD-Video players? AFAIK most video players only play the first two PCM channels.

But DVD-Audio players should play multi-channel PCM audio from a video DVD. Is there any reason not to produce a DVD-Video intead of DVD-Audio? (What are the aditional features of DVD-Audio besides MLP?)
