All of vi's `:' commands are ex commands.

Edlin is an ed clone.

Obviously, ed isn't as newbie-friendly as a visual editor. OTOH, it
does work on hardcopy consoles and dumb terminals. I often use ed for
editing files over a slow telnet link.
