Good day! If you are really hip on doing Windows programming
but want want to use C I suggest you sell your soul and grab a copy
of Visual C++. I have done some Windows system programming using
Visual C++ and I will say that it integrates very well into
the Windows NT environment.
The only reason I choose Visual C++ is for the same reason that
a lot of developers do and that is because it is made by the same
company that made the OS. The biggest disadvantage with Visual C++
is the learning curve. If you are making the transition from the
Unix environment to the Windows environment I will warn you that
Windows programming is an exercise in frustration.
The one other thing I will say in defense of Visual C++ is it
comes with the MFCs (Microsoft Foundation Classes) which simplify
a lot of tasks. If you wish to invest the time to become a Win32
guru I salute you but you will probably find you can do a lot more
with the MFCs.
Best of luck with your Windows programming career. You now join
the rest of us who have sold their soul. :)
