I had this problem because in Slakware 3.5 , rc.inet2 does a
`mount -a -t nfs` before loading portmapper.
Upgrading from 2.0.36 to 2.2.0pre9 exposed this problem.

My solution was to move that line into rc.M, next to `rc.samba`
and the other "remote disk mounting" section of the script.

Of course, he is trying to accommodate /usr on nfs which is a
real chicken and egg if one tries to load portmapper off of the
default /usr/sbin/rpc.portmap .

What was real weird was that these nfs mount errors didn't seem
to affect my nfs mounts, but wrecked havoc with my samba mounts
which would run for about 15 minutes and then turn zombie until
reboot. (up for 3 hours so far...)
