X-win question

I am running Xwin on my machine and I would like to connect to a remote
machine and use it's xwin or at least it's xwin apps.  So I telnet in and
login. Then when I try to load a program like netscape off the remote 
server, It says something like display (0,0) no valid.  Any ideas what I 
need to do to get the proper display settings?
