I'm currently running slackware, with kernel 2.0.30, and am thinking of
either upgrading or switching to a different release. I know that there
is no 'best' release, or everyone would be using it, but everyone must
prefer the one they use for a reason. So if any of you do have any pros
or cons specific to, say, RedHat, or whichever release you use/know best,
could you please post them to help me make a decision?

I have Slackware installed on one of three bootable partitions on my hard
drive, the other 2 being DOS 6.2 and Windows95. I do all my mailing under
linux, and use it mainly for the net (using CSLIP and a static IP, in
case that makes a difference in which release to use), and for coding with
gcc or g++. I've also set up X, and want to continue to use it.

My system is a P133 with 64MB and a 1.7GB hdd. I've been running Linux on
my own computer for about a year now, and using unix in general for about
4. I feel I've reached a stage where I should simply start over with
linux, since this install was originally configured by a friend, and he
put in a lot of stuff I don't need (or even know is there, sometimes), and
I now want an install which I can configure the way I want.

Any insights into different releases are appreciated.

TIA,
Mike Underwood
