   My advice would be to check out both RedHat and Debian.

   I've run both, but prefer Debian.  Debian is non-commercial, rock-solid,
and uses a text-based install (there's a combination text or X-based install
under development).  Debian has a few more software packages than other Linux
installations, and also can install Slackware or RedHat packages with Debian's
own package manager.

   Either way, you can't really go wrong.  Drop by both of their web sites and
do some comparisons.
