I'm totally lost on this one.

I've read all the docs, including the scsi howto (which was very
informative), the kernel bootprompt howto, various other howtos, and the
kernel sources. And (of course) the docs for the card.

I just *cannot* get this adaptec 1542CF scsi card to work! :-(

I could post lots of details here about the error messages I'm getting, but
for most people this would be boring and a total waste of bandwidth.

If anyone does have this card working with linux, PLEASE CONTACT ME!

Please. Thankyouveryverymuch.

Here's a short summary:

- I have a conner 1.05Gb hard drive (ID0) and an sony CDROM (ID1) hanging
off the cable, with the terminators removed from the cdrom and in place
on the HD which is at the end of the cable. (It makes no observable
difference to anything if the terminators are off or on the cdrom - or
  the HD either).

- tried lots of different hardware combinations of the above (device IDs,
  dip switches, terminators etc).

- tried lots of different aha1542 bios configurations.

- I have the card set for ID7 (default), irq12 (3com card is using 11),
dma7 (I have a SB card using dma5), port 0x330 (default, no conflicts),
aha bios at CD000h (default). [I've tried disabling the bios, no
  observable difference.]

- I have the aha154x driver compiled into the kernel (2.0.33).

- linux recognises the card on bootup, but only one device on it before it
goes into an endless loop trying unsuccessfully to send reset commands.
Time for the big red button :-( [Lucky this happens before the
  filesystems are mounted].

- the only way to boot successfully is to go into the aha bios and set the
dma to 5. Then I get an error message about being unable to allocate a
dma buffer for it and the card driver is then disabled (dma5 conflicting
with the sound driver). It's a totaly kludge, but at least it's a way to
get my system to boot :)

- The bios on this card is version 2.10. The scsi howto mentions an
upgrade to the 2.11 bios to solve a particular problem - but it's not the
problem I'm experiencing. (I forget the exact details at the moment).

Will getting a bios upgrade for this card get it to finally work?
Or is there something else that I need to tickle?

Cheers
