It sounds like you are having the same problem that some body mentioned
earlier, and was trying to patch the default redhat install kernel for
it.  I think the Dell Poweredge 2300 has the adaptec aic7890 scsi chip
on it, which is not supported by any of the current releases of the
Linux distributions, and this is why someone here is trying to patch-up
the install kernel on the redhat boot disk so it can recognize this
chip.

Sorry I don't remember the name of the guy trying to patch redhat boot
disk, but if you are listening, could you post your results please, this
seems to be of interest to a few of us.
