I don't think that will solve the problem. LILO did the same thing to me when 
I first installed Linux.
If i remember correctly i solved it by running
# lilo -l

from lilo manpage:
  -l     Generate linear sector addresses  instead  of  sec�
         tor/head/cylinder addresses.
