This is probably off the mark (I'm assuming your boot partition is in
the right place), but I had a similiar problem caused by too many files
in my boot partition (I have a seperate 10Mb /boot partition). It turns
out that I had three kernel images and a backup to two, it was too much,
so it spanned onto another cylinder (guess). Of course, if you only have
your kernel and such in your boot partition, then I'm useless :-)
