Well, I installed SAMBA and it works fine for me!
In fact since I don't have NT servers in my LAN I
told SAMBA to perform as such. This is what I did:
# Global parameters
workgroup = LINUXSERVER ;(Workgroup name | NT Domain!)
server string = Linux Samba Server version %v
name resolve order = host lmhosts
socket options = IPTOS_LOWDELAY TCP_NODELAY
domain logons = Yes ;(Serve domain logons to win95,98 boxes)
os level = 65 ; Beat NT and become Domain controller
preferred master = Yes ; Just as it sounds
domain master = Yes ; This is it!!!!
local master = Yes ; Yes so it holds the list of machines on
this subnet
Then on the win95 machines (I supposed you have win95,98 machines
on your net!) you set them up to log onto windows NT domain.
In my case it would be [LINUXSERVER]
I didn't configure my server for guest access but it's quite
easy. It's just a matter of adding a couple of lines to the
global section and to the shares.
I omited the shares part cause it's irrelevant in your problem.
As well as some parts of the config that just deal with fine tuning
and that are relative to the system you may have.
For further details go into smb.conf man pape by:
man smb.conf
and read the SMB HOWTO, it's clear and good for a starting
point of Samba Configuration.
If you can, use SWAT (Samba Web Administration Tool) to config
Samba from any win95,98,NT,Linux box using a Web Browser.
It lets you get FULL control on your smb.conf file, and gives
you help about the options.
And that's it! The above piece of configuration file may
not be a perfection of Samba config but it works incredibly
fine for me!
Hope that helps you!
