I've got some additional information on my logging problem. In brief I'm
running slackware with kernel 2.2.7, and my system is not logging. I've
installed the latest sysklogd and confirmed that both sysklogd and klogd
are running. I looked in /var/adm/messages and found a command for
sysklogd to restart after an exit on signal 15. Does this mean anything?
