Let me correct myself there......

I went to the Caldera site, and got the RPMs for OpenLinux 2.3 release,
which has an updated version of glibc.......

Actually, what solved the problem was going to the Caldera Site, and getting
the .RPMs for 2.3 glibc and installing them.

Now, Apache compiles fine!

Try to add -lcrypt to linker options. Sometimes crypt() function is
located in libc and sometimes in libcrypt.
