I don't like your chances.  Winmodems are brain-dead by design, and
every time you change or update your operating system, you need to get
a new driver.  Very ugly.

That being said, have a look at freshmeat.net or slashdot.org or a web
search for winmodem and linux. I seem to recall that there is project
alive out there that is working on making these things work with
linux.
