Andries apparently felt the changes were too invasive for core system utilities.

As Evgeniy said, cryptoloop has been deprecated in favor of dm-crypt,
which is more robust and backward compatible[1]. I stopped using that
patch some time ago. :-/ But if you need it in a pinch, you can find it
here:
