Yes, since we are societifying ILUG-Delhi, we need to firm up ideas on what
we would like the LUG-D society to do. Where do we want to go tomorrow?
I love the LUG meets, the friendly atmosphere, the enthusiasm, the spirit
of sharing/cooperation and the rich pool of technical expertise of
different types. It feels good to be part of a community of this nature.

To state the obvious, we all share a common interest - which is Linux. And
now that we are moving from an informal club/group to a registered society,
it is the right time to think about broader goals and objectives.

Our activities have so far covered: sharing expertise, providing mutual
support, promoting Linux in our various individual capacities, organising
the occassional LDD, exchanging CDs and the like.

For a LUG like us, is there a role to play in promoting the development and
use of Free software in a larger context? What do we need to do if we wish
to promote Linux in schools, colleges, universities, Govt. offices, various
Govt. projects - including rural Internet Kiosks etc...? Free software
solutions can save tremendous costs for large projects with large user
bases. And at the same time give people choices, instead of tying them down
to a single locus of control. Is this something towards which we would like
to make a small contribution?

I believe that societifying ILUG-D is one step towards taking some of these
broader social responsibilities.

3 cheers...!

Leo
