You are absolutely right about the free part, but Sun does not allow you to
*Download* Solaris 8.
I went crazy trying to figure out how to download it. Contacting the support
staff didn't help much either. At first I got a reply that I must register
at the Sun's developer site and go to a URL to download it. The URL was the
same page where you register for the License program.
Those guys conveniently ignored the fact that I had sent them a copy of my
license.
I contact tech support again & this tme they said "we are sorry to..." but
Solaris 8 is not currently avaailable for Download.
Lesson Learnt: Techsupport staff just feed you crap. & Just Stick to one
*nix called LINUX!

Actually it is not if you will use it on a computer with 9 or more CPUs.
Otherwise you can download it for free from sun.com or free.com and use it
on a computer with up to 9 CPUs, I don't think that you'll have any
problems
