Umm, ahhh. Well. Just to nitpick, the Grail did not have water, it held
wine. And its worth came from the fact the Jesus used it at the last
supper, not its thirst-quenching properties. This is, of course, the most
common Arthurian tradition. In the Greek Orthodox tradition, the Grail was
the platter on which the first Communion wafers were placed. In the Anitoch
version, also found in Ukraine and Russia, the Grail was the Shroud itself.
This links it to the Turin Shroud.

The word "Grail" comes from latin "gradalis", by degrees, gradually.
Conceptually, it is a secret that is revealed, or whose value is revealed,
in stages. It is only around 1200 that it was identified with an actual
object.

Of course, I have no idea what Licence Jesus gave this under to Joseph of
Arimathea, and how it was redistributed (some people will never document
their work). So this is probably off topic. Or maybe not.
