well, umm , yes. but i was greedy and wanted to go all the way up to
2.2.15 with all the latest bells and whistles. (might as well, since
one keeps postponing these tasks to some suitable weekend which never
comes!) hence i decided on a distro upgrade. which actually went well
and wasn't time consuming (1 hr or so).
