I used to run Linux on a Pentium 133 w 64M Ram. I am using Linux since
0.99.12. Never had serious problems. But this changed.
Christmas I upgraded to AMD K6-400 (Stepping 12) , 256 MB Ram (PC-100),
FIC PA-2013 Motherboard (1 Mb cache, VIA MP3 chipset), scsi from the old
box.

Since christmas I am struggling to get a stable system. It is a
nightmare.  I am geeting quite often kernel paging request errors. It
does not seem to be a kernel problem, because it shows the same
behaviour with 2.0.36 and 2.2-pre3 and pre5.
First I suspected that the RAM is not able to run at 100 Mhz, so I
decreased the frequency to 66 Mhz. No difference.
The most annoying thing is now, that I obviously can not restore
anything from tape anymore. I am doing tape backups every night with
BRU. The "brulog" does not show any errors when it writes to tape, but
it complains when it starts to verify.
Also when I try to restore something from tape it crashes and after a
while the systems hangs.
I have no clue anymore.
Any suggestions?
