Hi There
Try recompiling "pppd" with HAS_SHADOW flag on
( something like that in the pppd Makefile ).
This would work for incoming connections with PAP auth.
Hope this would help

Subject: PAP and Diald
Having a bit of trouble with PAP, diald and pppd ver 2.3.5.
The machine is a P166 with Slakware, kernal 2.0.30. It acts as a file
server, (Samba), a gateway to the web for workstations on the same
subnet,
(Diald, IP Masq, pppd), and a diald-up server for remote win95 clients,
(Mgetty,
pppd). There are two phone lines, one for the dial-up and one out-going
to an ISP.
The problem is: If I activate pap on the dialup, the user verfication
will fail if
the web connection (diald) is not up. While it is failing, it causes the
connection
to become active. If the connection to the web is active, then the
verfication with
pap works fine.
If I disable pap (-pap) on the dialup, then users can dialup and login,
and it does not cause diald put the line up.
I am posting before really digging into this in hopes that someone else
has already
encountered and solved this problem?
