I could use a little guidance on understanding the relationship of
diald 'defaultroute' and 'dynamic' commands and how they relate to the
pppd 'defaultroute' and 'noipdefault'.
First off, I have a good working PAP pppd configuration with an Ascend
ISP server. Using the PPP-ON and PPP-OFF scripts I can link the system
here to the Ascend server, providing a default route and negotiating the
new dynamic address.
I have been trying to configure diald to do the same without the manual
ppp-on script. I have been successful with the connect script and PAP
authentication. What is not happening is the correct paths for both the
dynamic and defaultroute handshakes. I have diald.conf set up for both
defaultroute and dynamic and once the diald & is started I have in my
routing default to SL1 (SL0 is an internal slip link via slattach). I
start a test session telneting to an isp address and thus kick off the
modem script. All goes well until the defaultroute is set. I get an extra
default route to ppp0 and an extra path to the ISP default router via
PPP0 as well. I have removed the 'defaultroute' in the /etc/ppp/options
file with no luck. I have also removed the 'noipdefault' in the
/etc/ppp/options an the system will not negotiate the dynamic address.
It appears that the 'dynamic' feature of diald is not working.
I have tried numerous variations on both the diald.conf file and the pppd
options file with little luck and could use a helping hand/eye/mind. I
have stripped the /etc/ppp/options file down to just ' name (login name)'
and 'login' with the same ppp0 default results.
So, how do I get the 'defaultroute' and 'dynamic' features of diald too
work with my PAP authentication??
Season's Greetings to *ALL*
