Errors on control fifo: Interrupted system call

 I just re-installed diald.  When it dials it say:
 "Errors on control fifo: Interrupted system call"
 
 it then dials, connects, and eventually times out.
 
This is on a RH5.2 system. I installed from an RPM.
This RPM used to work!

 Anyone have any ideas?
