I have exactly the same problem - the first packet seems to be lost.
(SuSE 5.3, kernel 2.0.35, using diald, get dynamic IP addresses, using
masquerading and the ipfwadm-firewall)

I just did a
cat /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_dynaddr
on the machine running diald and received
7
So this must already have been done on my machine althoug I still have this
problem loosing the first packet which bring up the link.

Does anyone have an idea?
Olaf
