I rarely use netscape at all.
It appears with my favoured Browser for Windows, Opera and also with a small
eMail tool called eMail-Notify by Ludovic Dubost ([EMAIL PROTECTED]). It does
not come into efect although it also appears with Forte Agent because Agent is
configured to make several tries to lookup a host on the internet (usually a
mail- or newsserver). I did not try a telnet yet and I also did not yet
investigate it when running Linux on the machine originating the packet bringing
up the link.

I am also running my own little nameserver on the machine running diald (just to
satisfy my sendmail :-) so usually named will forward the DNS lookup it cannot
resolve ... and returns with an error. This behaviour was the same before I set
up my named.

Olaf

Just trying a telnet to some other machine by numeric address

a few seconds AFTER the ip connection is up
the telent client returns "connection timed out"
