Shouldn't these all be swept away?

/var/run may not be the place for all systems,
but surely all systems that have a place
for pids of running processes
have start-up scripts that can be hacked.

Early-on in such a script
should the "slate" not be wiped clean?

As Lourdes Jones remarked,
this is not a diald issue,
but an initialization script issue.
