The linux.* newsgroups are actually gated versions of the
mailing lists. However the gating often gets broken and is
only supposed to be one way. So if you post it *may* be
accepted by a server and *may* appear on one or more other
servers but there is no guarantee that it will ever go anywhere
and, in fact, should *never* go anywhere. If you just want to
see what is happening the linux.* newsgroups may show some
useful traffic, otherwise join the mailing list.
N.B. diald questions often turn up in comp.os.linux.networking
and even comp.protocols.ppp.
