Along with /windows/hosts, if you are/or have and LAN setup, there is an
additional LMHOSTS.SAM that should be copied to LMHOSTS.  It seems that for
reason known only to God and Bill that the /etc/hosts file is split for
intra and internet addresses.

But the dialing out is almost definately due to domain/host queries. 
Another alternative is to uncheck the use IPX settings in the windows
network config.  Using just tcp/ip.  Works fine for my system, two linux
machines and one win95 sitting on a 10b2.

If youy need further help I'll dig out the settings I have used on all
machines and mail them to you.
