If you put exactly what you said in diald.conf it will not
work.
The diald man page says on debug:

    debug <mask>
        Set  the  debugging mask. The mask is the binary OR
        of the following hex value flags:

In other words, convert the numbers given to binary. I
skimmed this
section and tried useing hex masks and got nowhere. Once I
converted
the numbers to binary, I got what I was looking for. In your
case it
would be "debug 10001" (double check my hex -> bin
conversion).
