I think the problem is that you probably need to remove the diald
package completely. "dpkg -r <package>" leaves some config files on your
disk (this is meant to help in case you want to remove it only
temporarily, so you don't have to reconfigure everything). In your case,
try the "purge" option :
"dpkg --purge diald" .
But I'm not sure that this will leave the sources (someone else might
know better), so take care backing them up...
Some error messages might appear saying things like "couldn't remove
directory" or so. Those directories might contain files you've
manipulated by hand and thus can't be removed automatically.
